The race involves competitors running downstream alongside the river for up to 5k , visiting various checkpoints along the way until they meet the bore coming towards them up river. The runners then turn around and race the bore back to the start. If you are quick enough to reach all checks then the maximum distance will be 10k.
Who wins?
Well, if the bore beats the first runner back, she wins...
If the runner beats the bore back they win, but they must have visited each checkpoint along the way!
The bore can travel at varying speeds depending on the tide height, wind conditions and amount of water in the river, so some years she will be beaten easily, others not.
It will start at Arlingham on the banks of the Severn. GL2 7JR
To find out more about the severn bore come along to the Magnificent Severn event which runs during the largest tides of the year.
